Massive congratulations to James (not his real name) who has completed the Driving Ambition programme and gained his driving licence, first time, with 35 hours of driving lessons. James is our second trainee to pass the programme and gain a full licence and with his newfound success, is now seeking paid employment. Earlier in the year, another trainee passed her driving test, gained her driving licence and has now got full time employment as a Go Kart mechanic.
Driving Ambition is an incentive scheme enabling young adults with disadvantages, to gain a full driving licence at the same time as improving their job prospects. The programme is broken down into the two parts of the driving test – theory and practical, as well as a work experience component. Participants are taken through and tested on the Highway code before starting driving lessons. This emphasis on road safety helps to increase people’s confidence as does the support we provide to help someone through their practical driving test.
Currently, the programme is being rolled out across all our SMaRT garage services in London. We have over 70 people participating in Driving Ambition so we are expecting more success stories over the coming months.
